Transparent White OLED for Lighting
The project aims to develop (i) high-efficiency transparent organic light-emitting diode (OLED) light sources for intelligent lightings for home, offices and automobiles, and (ii) technology for enhancing optical extraction efficiency over the conventional OLED designs. To achieve the goal, the team at CityU will develop transparent electrodes and extremely thin and transparent encapsulation technology for dual-side illumination. The prototype to be fabricated will be transparent both in the on- and off-modes. Such OLEDs will open up novel applications such as partitions that are invisible by day but capable of providing a pleasant diffused light at night, i.e. at night the transparent OLED attached to the window will take over the natural light to provide illumination.
